Some greys can be quite fastidious about not pooping in the cage but, as you have found, it isn't always possible to be there. Although he calls you to take him to the bathroom or waste basket, he isn't really potty trained as such because he is going everywhere else as well, and ideally what you want him to do is poop in his cage or out on his stand or the place you take him to but not on you or on the floor. I think you will have to encourage him to poop in the cage by training him to poop over newspaper. Put newspaper in the place you are taking him to so that he associates the words, the action and the newspaper. Then start doing the same thing but while he is in the cage.

If hubby got down stairs befor me in the mornings he would let marley out, marley would get on hubbys shoulders and go poop, all down hubbys back, hubby thought marley saved all his poop up for him in the morning. If marley is sat on my knee in the evening, if he wants a poop he will get off me and onto hubbys knee and poop. i find this highly hysterical, but hubby does not, HE HE think its time to retrain marley.

I have tried to move Manzi to a place to poop. He has learned to "hold it" when he is in his cage. When I visited my inlaw for the weekend, I took him with me and so I would take Manzi outside to the grass. He learned to go there immediately. I said the words, but I think he associated going poop with the grass because he still won't go on word cue. I have a new problem now though. He doesn't mind going on the floor, so I watch him and when he is about to go I pick him up and bring him to his play stand. Instead of going, he then holds it. And he can hold it for what seems forever. What should I do? And I am sure that he is about to go when I take him to the play stand because he always takes a few steps backwards and shakes his tail.

I think he has got a bit confused about what he is supposed to be doing. Make sure he fully understands the connection between the words and the action. Concentrate on this for a while by just saying the words everytime he goes.

Jane, anyone, I wonder do you know if AGs normally pass wind? Sometimes when Joshua is near, I get a sudden waft of a grassy/marshy/boggy smell. Is this a bird fart and is it normal? Lidia

I have never experienced it with either of mine! I know that they can't "burp" which is why they shouldn't have carbonated drinks.

Kiko has learned the word "POOP". As soon as I get up in the morning and bring him out of his cage, I put him on his shower perch and tell him he must go "poop". He usually does it, and boy am I glad it's in the tub where I can rinse it right down the drain because sometimes it looks like he may have been holding it for days, instead of hours!! I also do the same when I come home from work and take him out of his cage. As the year has gone by since we brought him into the family, I have gotten used to the little wiggle and backwards movement he makes just before he goes, and I am able to get him to a safe place to poop. I believe that as time goes by, you will recognize your grey's movement and be able to bring him to the place you want him to go. They are so smart that I believe they can learn anything. I look forward to seeing what Kiko learns, and of course I love to read this board and hear of everyone's adventures in their "grey" world. I'm sure we'll be hearing from you soon as to the progress you are making. Good luck!! My Louie does something similar; I know she has a "MegaPoop" in the morning, and one when I get home from work. What I do is, because sometimes I'm late getting up or home from work, and she's already gone poo, I'll take her to the bathroom and hold her over the toilet and tell her "bombs away!" until she produces something. She knows that there are no kisses until she poos; it's been working quite well!

BoBo does 'mimic farts'...and then he giggles...hmmmmm...I wonder where he gets that from!?!
I cannot confirm but I am a good 90% sure that he passes little gas bubbles himself. Sometimes I can hear him give a little grunt while he is on my shoulder (squirtless)...then follows that very boggy, marshy, ORGANIC smelling waft.
Eeeewwwwwww....

When I come home in the afternoon, the first thing I do is take Joshua out of the cage and put him up on his tree. He is just above my head at this point, and I usually wad up a piece of toilet roll and hold it under his arse and say "Oh oh oh oh" (his cue to poo). I said "oh oh oh oh", and he did his pre-poo shimmy, his little butt dilated (pardon me for the detail here!) but he did not poo. I gave him a moment to compose himself, put the tissue under his arse again, and said "oh oh oh oh". Again, he did the pre-poo shimmy, his bum dilated, but he did not poop. I assumed, then, that he had probably just pooped somewhere inside his cage, but I did not see it when I took him out. I went to the next stage of my routine, got down on my hands and knees to put newspaper underneath his tree and play area when he suddenly pooped right on the back of my head!!! Anybody got a really BIG gun? Lidia

Im sorry, but "pre-poo shimmy" is now officially part of my vocabulary...how can you let a gem like that go!?! As for the poopy head (poor, poor Lidia)... hahahahahaha...lol...ahahaha!!! <insert hysterical laughter here> heehee...hmmpfff...HAHAHAHA! I LOVE Joshua. We had a similar moment back when my kitty, St Hubert, was still around. BoBo called him "Come here St.Hubert...come on" and of course my well trained cat obliged. ...then the "pre-poo shimmy" and before I could move the bird, St Hubert got a face full of crap! Then the laughter started...BoBo thought it was hilarious! In case anyone has ever wondered...yes, cats do get embarrassed. Poor St.Hubert was frozen solid in his state of humiliation for a good 2 minutes. Hmmmm...their relationship got a little sketchy after that...
