So Aka is toilet trained as far as we can take it. He goes in his cage when he's eating so he can get straight back to his food, but other than that, he goes to his toilet (a small storage crate lined with newspaper in front of his cage) when he needs to go, even if he's not in the lounge. In this case, he will start looking around and wiggle his butt to show me he needs to go, and then I get the ladder and take him where he goes almost immediately. It's really cool.
Except when he's upset. I work from home which is great so I don't have to leave him for hours on end and we talk throughout the day. Sometimes, however, I get stuck into my work and I don't talk or respond as much as usual. I'll respond but it won't be as loud or as frequent as lets say, the hour before that because I'm concentrating on something. Yesterday, I was apparently ignoring him —My desk faces his cage and there's a distance of about two meters between my desk and his cage. Any closer and my desk would be inside his cage.
He went to the toilet like normal and I clicked and praised him (he still refuses treats), but I went back to my work and he wasn't happy with this. He walked to the corner of his cage (closest to my desk), went to the toilet on the carpet, pointed at his cloaca with his beak, and then laughed! He then went back to the toilet perch, as if to show me he knows were it is.
I know I shouldn't have because I don't want to encourage this behavior, but I laughed so hard! I couldn't help it. I was really shocked and amazed that he did that, I almost wanted to praise him for his slyness. He went about his day like normal after this, and didn't ask me to speak to him again.
