When your bird is looking at you (eye contact) on their cage or at a distance, try to put something between your eye and theirs.
It can just be a cage bar.
My observation is that they zero in on your pupil.
They aren't looking at your face or clothing.
Beaker will move his head to clear the obstruction to remake pupil to pupil contact.
Parrot science. lol

Sounds interesting, I will have to try that.
Mitzi sometimes looks at me very intensely as if she is trying to communicate telepathically.

I tried it while she was sitting on top of the cage. I put a pen between our eyes. She turned her head almost upside down as if to ask if I was crazy.

They seem to want pupil to pupil contact when looking at you.
I have a theory that is how they "recognize" someone or each other.
A feathered "eye scanner".
