hello foroum, My name is Antonio i come from Greece (Athens) and i have a big love and respect for this species... my pappa used to have a male birdie before he got married, Otto, who has been with our family untill the age of 45...it was a big loss, i spent 4 years grieving him but i ended getting one beautiful female 2 months old....i had so many flash backs though so i got her another baby 3 months old...i raised them both and when they got 2 years old, i lost them both....started scanning the city (its a big one) and after a week i found my beloved female...we really are so attached to each other....i kept searching and searching for our missing boy but i never got to trace him down...the time was ticking and i knew that i shouldnt leave her alone (meaning without a featherd comany)...i had to do something before she gets 3 years old, especially due to our bond which was getting stronger and stronger....so while i was searching for our missing boy i was also looking for a male...but an adult one without an interest in human beings...a parrent raised one should do the job i was thnking...and i finally did find one...a goregeous young man its been 13 months now since i got him and introduced him to her....we had some upside downs and some territorial issues but as she was and is the alfa bird she eventually accepted and slowly bonds with our boy he is 5 years old and she is almost 4 now...he gets to feed her, he visits the nest ive attatched, almost every day but havent seen them preeing yet... so, this is us

Hello and welcome to the forum. It sounds like they are getting on very well if he is feeding her.

Welcome to the forum.
You were lucky to have found the female. It does sound like your new boy is bonding with her. Are you planning to breed them?

goodnmorning, my main concern was my little princess to mate with her species and not with me...if she would become a plucker it could drive me crazy (a month before i brought our new boy she had started teasing her belly...couldnt tell if it was a broodpatch or just plucking cause she was less than 3 years old and still wasnt done with the molting period yet back then).. I inserted the nestbox when they both moved in the cage togerther..untill today i havent fugured why she started doing this thing. the stress shes has been through when i lost her was huge, but on the other hand she has also been getting closer and closer to me (for 9 months it only was just us two)so maybe she wanted to breed with me and in her attempt to show this to me she was plucking her belly more and more...this shall be explained when she finally get to breed with her new boyfriend...if she plucks again her belly feathers then this must be be her "way" when breedding, but if not, she most likely got so close to become a plucker...is all in the past though but i really want an answer to this...
here is when they were still babies (less than 2 years old)
here she explains me how i lost them both
here its the two of us
and here she is with her new man
i was planning to build an aviary for them but the male has been visiting the nest (7 months now) trying to get her my girl with him inside there....but she doesnt...lately she has been getting really close though...

They are still young, she might not be ready to breed yet. Also, Greys select their mates and there is no guarantee that two will breed just because they are male and female. She might see him as a parent or sibling and think you are her mate. However, they do seem to be getting on very well so it could just be a matter of time.
I have a male and a female who live together in the same cage but they have never shown any interest in each other and don't preen each other. They are 26 and 24 now.

But I don’t pet her at all. I’ve stepped behind and leave the ground free for this boy . They eat together they sleep side by side and he feeds her every day as he also visits every day the Nestbox . He enters both chambers and messes the wood shavings. It’s crystal clear his interest to her and his attempt to get her inside that box. I’ll Upload some vids I took today

Happy New Year. They certainly seem to have bonded. They might not be quite old enough to breed yet, especially the female.

Jane I can see her body “changing” a bit. She already gains weight. She lately eats a lot. The nestbox it’s been there 8 months now but she wouldn’t visit it. But lately she does so. She chews the entrance making it her very own. She was afraid of that box all these months. I know her, somethings driving her there...she can feel him trying to get her in there. He started feeding her alot just lately. In the past he would only feed her when she was aggressive to him... just to calm her down and show her not only that he’s not a thread but he likes her too. He is the one who drives her and he is doing so magnificently...she already is 4 years old (47 months old) she’s not that young . She maybe hand reared but she grew up with a male parrot so her instincts would normally awake easier, than a parrot who had raised only with humans

Hey they are doing very well thank you 😊 Day by day they are making the nest their very own. The boy spends so much time inside there, while the hen chews its entrance. He feeds her several times per day but until she decides to enter the nestbox I wouldn’t expect they copulate. Frankly I’d love to breed them but my main aim was to see my little princess with a feathered mate and not with me. And this is accomplished i believe 😊

It is probably only a matter of time. They are getting on well.
