So last week Ruby starts making the battery-is-expiring beeping noise from the smoke detector. We did our best to ignore it as clearly this is not a pleasant sound and nothing to encourage, but after a few hours we came to realize that our battery really WAS expiring. So I guess we might have to argue this is a safety hazard of owning an AG.
Compounding the situation, after replacing the battery and not being 100% sure we had it installed correctly, it wasn't completely obvious whether we had resolved the issue or not. We figured the beeps were pretty much cut in half so counted it a success.

With Chyloe, it’s the phone. She is always ringing the phone. We have to listen if other phones in the house are ringing before going to answer it.
Although our city is the capital, our firemen are not very busy so from time to time, they go around checking that people have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. When they came here, they were impressed with the bird. One guy pulled out his phone and played his ring tone which was the siren from the fire truck. He is lucky that Chy didn’t pick up that sound or I would have given him an earful. The fireman did add her to the list of who to save in an emergency. Of course, this was prior to Covid.

That's cool your firemen were doing that Haz - never heard of that being done before. Good that Chyloe is on the list of who to save!

That's hilarious about the smoke detector. We have the same issue when our batteries go out. The last few years though, we have been replacing them with the 10yr ones. Now we haven't had the problem in quite some time. I never mind when they forget the sound of the smoke detector.
Haz, that's awesome about the firemen. We don't have anything like that where we live (Los Angeles). My neighbor's house caught fire a few years ago when they were gone. Their little dogs were inside, but luckily, we were home and after a few firefighters, I was able to convince one of them to try saving the dogs. Both were fine, just completely terrified and hiding behind the couch, not making a sound.

We just had the same experience as Chris. Last night we heard beeping. My husband said Chy is not usually that loud when she is covered up. Turned out that the ground floor smoke detector needed a new battery.

Yes, Sometimes when the microwave timer beeps I actually diregard it thinking that it is Sasha and then realize that it actually is beeping.
