So we have one of those kitchen trash cans where the lid is opened by pressing a bar at the bottom with your foot. Ruby has always been obsessed with it and loves to fly to the lid and try to open it with her beak. She's been getting more and more proficient at getting the lid partially opened, which should have been a warning. Well today she was doing her usual routine on the trash can and I was hearing the usual associated noises. I got up from work and went to the kitchen and, ... no Ruby. Couldn't find her, but still hearing trash can noises. As you probably guessed, I opened up the trash can and there she was, happily biting an Amazon box I'd just put in. You'd think with her being trapped and in the dark she'd be somewhat stressed out, ... but nope. Can't help but wanting to ask her, for such an intelligent creature, what she'd planned out for an exit strategy.

Ruby was determined to get in that bin!
In the wild they nest in tree cavities, so maybe she is thinking it is potential nesting site.

We have a couple of vinyl bars behind the trash can to stop it from banging into the wall when someone steps on the pedal. One of Chy's hobbies is to pull one of the bars out from behind the can and wrestle with it. She also opens the lower kitchen cabinet doors. She is a very nosy bird.

That is hilarious. Manzi used to be obsessed with the bathroom trash can. He'd always tip it over, pull stuff out, and make a mess. I finally banned him from the bathroom except for showers.
These guys get so obsessed and it is nearly impossible to try and stop them. I finally hung a scary halloween decoration in front of the bathroom door to keep Manzi out. He was terrified of that for some reason and it did the job and he wouldn't come near the bathroom while it was up. It did lead to questions from visitors though.
Ruby must have been so satisfied to have finally gotten into the trash can. I'd be tempted to wait to see if she'd finally asked to come out.

We used to put plastic lizard/dinosaurs around areas we didn't want Ruby to go but the fear factor didn't last. However we have a Christmas decoration that is a Santa Claus that, when you press a button, comes up out of his chimney and says a lot of 'ho ho ho's'. Ruby absolutely hates this thing. It's been foolproof as far as keeping her away from badness. It may have to go on top of the kitchen trash can although that will leave its present location (guarding some electrical outlets she loves to tamper with) unprotected.

That absolutely cracks me up! A Christmas decoration guarding electrical outlets!! That halloween zombie decoration was great. It was just the paper ones from the dollar store that has several pieces. I eventually broke it into multiple pieces and had each one guarding something (top of fridge, bathroom, computer cords, etc.). That one lasted the whole 5 years till I moved. The bonus was that since it was hanging, if Manzi flew towards it, the wind from his wings made it move, which was all the more terrifying!! Both my parrots are deathly afraid of balloons as well.
