I have been experimenting with different types of muesli for Beaker's breakfast.
He has no interest in Dr. Harvey's hot, cold or dry and it isn't cheap.
I went through a bunch of different Bob's Red Mill and there is one he will tolerate.
I am now trying some foreign (German) stuff.
I have determined Beaker does not like oats very much if at all.

MUESLI?

My aussie husband uses that word for what Americans would call granola. Now my little kids often ask for "muesli bars" and visitors have no idea what they're talking about.
My two just pick out some things from granola. They waste too much with it, so I don't often give them any.

As a treat I give mine a little piece of McVitie's Crunchy Granola Oat Bakes. They are biscuits really so a box lasts a long time. They are 37% oats and also have cranberries in.

You would not believe the bags of half opened granola and muesli I have in the pantry.
All for this red tailed fuss budget.

I am wondering if he would like it if you soaked it overnight - such as in fruit juice or yoghurt.
They are very fussy. Mitzi will enjoy nuts - walnuts for example - so I buy more of those but then she decides she has gone off them and some other nut are her favourite. She has been through hazelnuts, pecans, walnuts, almonds - both blanched ones and with skin on. Any type of nut she has enjoyed for a while and then gone off just gets thrown down. Monty just eats whatever he can get his beak on but neither of them like brazil nuts.

Chy will eat oats but I only give her the ones I am eating. She devours it. If I put it in her bowl, she would probably ignore it.

I have just got mine some Jordans Super Nutty Granola which went down a treat although Mitzi might not bother with it once all the large clusters have gone.

That's good Beaker is eating it. It looks good, quite chunky, with lots of nuts.
I know with mine if I get them muesli or granola they eat the nuts and the large clusters of cereal but lose interest once they have all been eaten and just the little bits are left.

Here is a blurry pic of Beaker's breakfast. He definitely eats some of it. Much better then the other stuff.

So the UPDATE is this:
Beaker eats some of it and has now figured out that the raisins aren't poison so he does all of them in.

Mitzi liked the little date cubes I gave her yesterday that were in a Christmas tub of nuts and fruit.

MUESLI?

Hi beakertrout, I only found this stuff recently so I couldn't post it before, but Avi Plus (not sure if you get it where you live) sells a soft food that I give Aka for breakfast. It has all the nutrients and fat required for a single meal or you can leave it in the cage as dry food along with the pellets. I was also looking for muesli for him but I haven't found a parrot muesli that doesn't break the bank, and human muesli is just as bad, also, some of the human muesli we get here (South Africa) has a high sugar content, because of course it does. I add some nuts to the food and Aka almost finishes his bowl. I might add other stuff for variety later but at the moment he loves it as is, or with the nuts (pecans/hazelnuts). The product is Avi Plus Complete Parrot Mix, here is a link to their store. This is a South African company but I'm sure you will be able to find the products elsewhere. www.aviproducts.co.za/product/complete-parrot-mix/
