Research at Swiss university ETH Zurich has discovered that when pollen is scarce bees bite holes in plant leaves. This makes the plants produce flowers more quickly. Bees are waking from hibernation increasingly early in Spring due to climate change but finding that plants have not yet flowered. The research found that tomato plants bitten by bees flowered a month early.
