I give mine pine nuts as a treat. At some time in the past I trained Mitzi to go on a particular perch (which is white), using pine nuts because she now just goes to that particular perch when she sees the pine nuts. However, because she likes them so much and she knows I am also giving them to Monty she sometimes comes off the perch and gets closer to me, hoping to get her beak in the way and get more than Monty. (She doesn't)
When she does that I tell her to go back on the white perch but tonight I simply said, without even looking at her: "You are in the wrong place" and she immediately went to the perch. I have never said that to her before yet she knew what I meant.
I have said previously that I think our Greys understand everything we say; there are too many occasions when I have said something quite casually and not even directly to her and yet she knows exactly what I mean.

It is all an act.
They know exactly what is going on.

I agree that they know exactly what's going on. It's probably not parsing words into language as much as the tone, environmental situation, body language. Heck maybe there's some telepathy going on. But they know. They know .........

Oh they understand a lot. Ash was on the stair banister and she would not get down. When I tried she would either run up, or just tell me, "Bye Woo!" which translates to "leave me alone, I'm fine where I am," but then I said, if you come down I'll take you outside, she practically flew into my arms. Of course I didn't figure that getting back inside would be equally hard.
