Mitzi is being so wasteful with them, even more than she used to be. She will dip one in the water, eat a few bits off it, drop it and then demand more. If I put the ones she has discarded back in her bowl she won't eat them. Once they are smaller than the original size, even if only a bit smaller she rejects them. I could make almost a whole new bag if I gathered up all the bits she has dropped!

But if she doesn't drop them how will new nutriberrie trees grow?
Ash wastes a lot of them as well, I hate hearing the loud thud as they hit the bottom of her perch. If they don't land in her poo I will try to put them back in the bowl.

That is funny, I wish they grew nutiberrie trees, they would be so much cheaper., LOL, Sid will eat the whole thing, if some of it drops he will go down and pick it up. He does not poo in the cage, only outside the cage on his paper. Such a good boy, most of the time.

Chy will sit on a perch munching a Nutriberry. If I look at her, she will stare at me then open her toes and drop it. If I put it back in her bowl, she will toss it out again. Don't expect her to eat a partially-used Nutriberry please.
She is totally spoiled.

I got extra supplies in thinking I would be well stocked up for quite a while but Mitzi has other ideas. I bet they are not as wasteful in the wild, when they have to get all their own food rather than having it provided by room service! Mitzi doesn't like being watched either, she will drop them and she will also drop them if Monty gets in the way of the water bowl and she can't dip it.

After a couple of years, I tried these again.
Nothing has changed, Beaker ignores them.

I just picked up some Nutriberries, to encourage a bit more activity out of Manzi. He loves them!! I know Jane has talked about them all this time, but we've never tried them cause he's been fine eating other stuff.
But now I want to encourage a bit more activity out of him so he gets his coordination back.

It's good that he is enjoying the Nutriberries. Holding them should help with his coordination.

I am glad Manzi likes them, they should help his coordination and they are good to eat as they have a lot of different ingredients.
Mitzi is pretty addicted to them, she has all the different flavours and seems to like them equally.

Manzi can't hold them up with his feet. Every once in a while he automatically tries to use his foot, then quickly gives up. He sets the nutriberry on the ground, and then breaks it apart slowly. Previously, anything that he ate while holding with his foot, he now sets on the ground and uses that as counterbalance against his beak. He used to always use his left foot to hold his food while eating, but that is the very weak side. Often, he has that foot splayed sideways with the toes curled.
I ordered another type of nutriberry today, so I'm hoping Manzi likes those as well. He definitely gets excited about them and hobbles over to them when I get them out.

Chy's favourite Nutriberry is Tropical Fruit. Manzi is using his brain to figure out the best way to eat. He is trying to use his foot. When it gets stronger, he will succeed.

Jane, I know you've mentioned Monty's foot problems. Can he hold food at all with his feet? Can he perch just fine? Does he like nutriberries?

No, Monty can't hold food in his feet. He does occasionally try if something is the right shape but then he finds it hard to balance. He can perch although he falls off a lot and he struggles to move around the cage. I have tried breaking up Nutriberries for him but he doesn't really eat them.
