So my wife and I went away for Thanksgiving and boarded Ruby at a local Animal Hospital for 4 days. This is is not her primary avian doctor but is closer to our house. It's very rare we board her but couldn't avoid it this time. BIG MISTAKE.
They made us jump through a lot of hoops for her paperwork prior to accepting her reservation which was fine. When I showed up to drop her off the desk clerk came with an attitude because I'd forgotten to complete the on-line form they'd sent an e-mail about to have ready. This was a very simple form that took 30 seconds to complete but she still had to make a sarcastic comment about my failing to remember to bring it. Not cool when I'm spending $30 p/ day for what turned out to be apparently nothing. We wanted to then go in the back to see where they were putting her but they say they don't allow it because it "causes anxiety". Okay ..... maybe.
So we landed early yesterday and I call them to let them know we'll arrive in 30 minutes to pick up Ruby. The person answering didn't know who Ruby was. Asks someone else who then asks a 3rd and I can hear "Oh, that's the African Grey" in the background. Mind you, this is not a very big place.
When they bring her out with her cage we can clearly see her food dish is nothing but empty shells and "dust" - what it usually looks like if you don't change the food in a while. We then get home and realize that the plastic container we'd brought her food in was FULL. We expected it to be empty. In fact, we'd considered bringing a larger container out of fear they'd run out.
We are so PISSED OFF about this we're really besides ourselves. My wife was actually crying. Thankfully Ruby seems fine. She did eat a lot yesterday but otherwise was okay.
Anyway I'm just typing this to vent. We will NEVER EVER go back to this place again.
