I am having to take Mitzi to the vet again later today. She laid another egg overnight but her abdomen is still swollen. I phoned the vet and they said it doesn't sound normal and gave me an appointment for late afternoon today.

Hope she is doing okay. Sheeba has never laid an egg, but I know it can be difficult.

They are keeping her in. They are going to give her an ultrasound scan on her abdomen and do various blood tests. They also found she has wheezing on the right side of her chest. They will phone me sometime tomorrow.

Thank you everyone.
She is back home, I am so glad to have her home. I got a phone call just after 11am this morning to say Mitzi was just recovering from the anaesthetic and I was told to go at 5.50pm and the vet would discuss the results of the tests with me.
He said the abdominal ultrasound scan didn't show anything untoward, just another egg developing and some more follicles, so it looks like she will be laying more eggs. He said to reduce her day to 6 hours light and 18 hours dark. He said her calcium levels were "fantastic".
The other blood test results won't be back until early next week, these were the ones to see what the wheezing might be about, so we will have to wait and see what they show.
When the nurse was bringing her back along the corridor in the carrier you could hear her growling all the way but when I uncovered her and bent down to her she immediately stopped growling and said hello. She kept saying hello all the way home and making kissing sounds and when we got home I opened the door to the carrier and she came out. I told her she was such a brave girl. I put her on her stand and then asked her if she wanted to go in the cage and give Monty a kiss and she did.

Wow, that's scary!! I don't remember Maui having a swollen abdomen when laying eggs, so I was never too concerned about it. Hopefully she is fully better soon. Even after the swollen/bloody vent from the first egg, Maui never had that again with subsequent eggs.
Really cute that Mitzi said hello to you and was so happy to see you.

I am so glad she is doing well! Did the vet say how long she will be laying eggs?

I hope her abdomen goes back to normal, it can't be comfortable for her. She doesn't like going on her back anymore. He said the swelling was due to stretching of the tissues and the presence of the egg.
He didn't say how long she will be laying eggs but it sounds like there could be at least one more. She laid the first two eggs four days apart so she isn't following the usual pattern of egg laying. He did say to leave the eggs in the cage and then remove them after 21 days.

That is wonderful news. It reminds me of when Chy had her operation. Before going in for surgery, she wouldn't eat or talk. When we picked her up and she saw me, she said, "Hi sweetie pie. Let's go and eat". Everyone at the vet's was laughing.
Now we just need to hear that Mitzi's wheezing was just nerves and everything will be fine.

When my female lays eggs, she usually does for around 10 days. I'm in a first aid group and several people there have Greys that will lay eggs for up to 25 days (so with 5 day breaks between eggs). Maui usually had an egg every 1-2 days and would lay up to 5 eggs in a clutch.

How long do they go between each clutch? Chy is only eleven so I hope she doesn’t start laying anytime soon but it is always good to be prepared.
