Manzi is still not easy for me to handle. I was using a perch, and he seemed to be okay with that. I had also clipped his wings to keep him from flying away. His wings grew back quickly and he is fully flighted again. I still wanted to be able to put him outside in the aviary to play every day. Previously, I would carry him and Maui on my hands while holding their feet, so even if scared, they couldn't fly away.
So I have one of those little travel cages that is for airlines. Manzi hated that cage, but I put a lot of treats inside. It took several days of him being angry and scared getting him into the travel cage, until he finally calmed down. Now, as soon as he sees the travel cage, he climbs down from his perch and hops right in. I thought he would hold a grudge a lot longer, but he is quite excited as he knows it has treats. He also doesn't show any kind of aggression while going into or out of the little travel cage.
On the other hand, once he's out of the travel cage in the aviary, he does threaten me quite a bit and I am kinda scared he's going to fly at me. As long as I don't turn my back to him though, he just fluffs up and watches me closely.

I wondered how you transferred the birds to the aviary. Chy has a travel cage but I have to physically put her into it. She doesn’t care if I put treats in there. She won’t voluntarily go in unless it is to come home from the vet. She never eats anything while in the travel cage.
You had such a close relationship with Manzi. It is sad that he gets mad at you.

Maui is still really sweet with me, and I know that Manzi is happy with her and in general, he's still a very happy bird, so I'm getting to be okay with the new reality.
I spoke too soon about how well it was going. I usually leave the travel cage outside while they're in the aviary. A squirrel found it today and wanted the extra treats left inside. She/he chewed through the plastic holding the door in place to get to the treats, which destroyed the travel cage. I'm going to have to figure something else out.

When I was trapping chipmunks to transport, I caught squirrels who went in to get the treats. They didn't break anything and I let them go free.
