I came home yesterday to see a lot of blood in several places on the newspaper on the bottom of the cage. Monty has always had problems with his feathers and has a bleed from time to time so I assumed it was from him. On closer inspection I couldn't see any evidence so I got him out to investigate. To my surprise it wasn't from Monty. Mitzi had a little bit of blood on her foot and a tiny bit on one of her feathers so it must have been from her, for the first time in her life. I haven't as yet been able to examine her, it is much more difficult to examine Mitzi than it is to examine Monty.

Thank you. I still haven't been able to fully examine Mitzi's wing. She has realised I am trying to and so she is keeping them both firmly clamped down. I am surprised there isn't more visible blood on her considering the bloodbath that was in their cage yesterday.

I hope she is doing okay, they can really make us worry! Sheeba bumped her head during a "I really don't want to go in the bird cage" tantrum a few days ago. The drama can be a bit disconcerting.

She is okay thank you. The blood was certainly spread around, as well as a lot on the newspaper on the floor of the cage there were a lot of splashes on the front and the back of the cage and also on the wall to the side of the cage. I think there must have been some flapping going on during the episode. I think Mitzi had a worse bleed than Monty has ever had and he has had some pretty bad ones.

Wow, that sounds pretty scary!! They are so tiny, so when they splash blood around, it is terrifying cause it seems like they can't have much blood to begin with!

I've never seen Ruby bleed. I can well imagine I'm going to launch into a panic someday when/if it happens. At least now I know one possibility with the blood feather issue Jane.

It is scary when they bleed. Chy hasn’t done it for a while thank goodness.
