A tiny fish has had a tumour removed. She weighs less than one gram and is a Molly which is a species of exotic fish but she is also called Molly. She was taken to an exotic veterinary practice in Bristol and was the smallest creature they have ever operated on. They gave her an anaesthetic by using a container of solution until she went to sleep, then they put her on the operating table and kept her wet in a small puddle of water while they removed the tumour. The wound was sealed with a waterproof paste and Molly was then put in oxygenated water to wake her up and returned to her tank later that day. Amazing!

That’s incredible.
When Chy needed the operation, I was worried about the anaesthetic. The vet said she had operated on a budgie successfully but if the budgie had stopped breathing, there wasn’t much they could do to save it. She said they could do much more to save a grey.
It would be really difficult to operate on a tiny fish.
