I have never eaten octopus, the suckers put me off.
I watched an interesting programme the other night about a Professor of Marine Biology who decided to bring an octopus into his house so he could spend more time studying it. He constructed a large tank for it. The octopus formed a relationship with his 16 year old daughter, it would go rushing over to see her and when she put her hand in the water it would stroke her with its arms and stay near her. They are very intelligent creatures and can recognise different people. They can solve puzzles to get food and they also play with toys. They can change not only colour but texture according to the situation or their mood. He filmed it while it was asleep and it was going through a whole variety of colour changes, implying that it was dreaming.
No, I couldn't eat octopus.

I had no idea about those characteristics of an octopus. I wouldn’t eat one either.

It isn't just parrots that have a powerful beak!

Personally, I love octopus. I find it really delicious. But then reading things like this make me feel bad!! I don't eat it very often, but maybe I'll even cut that out.
I've always had a strong stomach and been able to eat anything. But then the animal lover side of me kicks in and I have gone for extended periods being a vegetarian (for a couple years at a time). I'm not a huge meat eater anyway, but if I had a personal chef who only cooked vegetarian (or vegan), I'd live life happily.

I too have gone for years as a vegetarian. Unfortunately, I was not good enough to maintain my health that way. I had to go back to eating a little meat.

I have pretty much been a vegetarian my whole life, (I am 67) with a little chicken here or there but only for variety. I do eat some fish. Sid does enjoy eating some of my fresh cooked tuna and grouper etc. just a piece or two. Happy to say no heart disease, or diabetes in my family, hopefully my birds will also stay healthy.

As far as health, we have no heart disease or diabetes or anything like that in our family. My grandpa lived till 88 yrs old, and he smoked and drank alcohol his whole life, and he only ate sausage and beef (very little veggies or even carbs).
Then I have a friend who is a vegetarian, but has terrible genetics. She's very athletic (and thin) and eats such a healthy diet, yet has always struggled with heart disease/cholesterol.
In the U.S., they recommend pregnant women limit fish intake, but then in Japan, pregnant women eat a ton of fish, including sushi, and are much healthier than in the U.S. I work in nutrition, and there are so many factors involved and often general rules that people follow are based off one, highly biased study. So for me, I try to be reasonably healthy, and I'm very athletic. I know my genetics have been great as well, so I count myself fortunate.
I do love seafood, like fish, shrimp, lobster, crab, squid, octopus, etc. Actually, since I'm pregnant right now, I always hungry and everything is sounding so good to me!!!
