I clipped my Weezers nails and I cut into the quick. I have cried about it and I want to know HOW you all do it without hurting your birds. AND what do I do for the bleeding. It has stopped but what was the correct way to handle this?

The longer the nails get the harder they are to clip safely because the blood supply is nearer the tip. You have to just take the points off. Some members file them rather than clipping them. With regular trimming the blood supply retreats further back. Styptic is the usual recommendation to stop bleeding nails but they mustn't eat any.
I have never had to trim their nails because they have the nail trimming perches which work well. They do have to be the correct size for the bird in order to work properly. However, some members say they don't work for their birds so it could be that nails vary in hardness. Jane

I use a nail file and never clip.
The breeder/groomer uses a DREMEL.

I hit my birds quick a couple of times. The first time I just left it and panicked until I saw the bleeding stopped. The second time I tried cornstarch and it worked amazingly well. The bleeding stopped almost instantly.
In general though, I just take off the sharp edges and I clip them frequently enough so I haven't hit the quick in years.

I have the vet do the clipping during her checkups. In between checkups, we use the Dremel to file the sharp points.

I take Sheeba in to her vet every 5 months or so, she is really strong and won't let me do it. The vet cuts and files her nails and trims her beak which seems to grow in crooked.
