Does anyone have experience with their bird deliberately throwing food out of the dish? Do you know of a good dish that will prevent this? Hector has been looking me in the eye, standing on the edge of the dish, sticking his foot in and grabbing a foot full of pellets and seeds and throwing them out of the cage. We were at the end of a bag and I gave him the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was old and not too tasty. Changed the food over and he started it right up again. Any ideas.... I'm really getting tired of sweeping and it's killed my roomba.

Yes, Mitzi does exactly the same. Mine have a mix of seeds, pellets, nuts, pulses etc. but Mitzi really loves Nutriberries and when she has eaten them and wants more she deliberately puts her foot in the bowl, grabs a foot full of the mix and drops it on the floor of the cage. It seems to be a deliberate protest about the fact that she wants more Nutriberries because she stops as soon as I give her more.

Beaker flings food with his beak.
On occasion he will dump a food bowl over.

One for the bird, 10 for the forest floor. How else will new pellet trees grow?

Reminds me of the babies people put in a high chair and then poke a hole in a garbage bag for their head and arms except this is in reverse. If you want to eat then you eat in the covered area. Yeah, you spoiled her fun.

Thanks for the answers. This is something he did occasionally, usually if I was eating in front of him and did not share. Now he is doing it all the time. It doesn't seem to matter how good the food is in the dish. He's taken a whole almond, paused looked at it and then threw it anyway. It looks like he's just saying he's unhappy with the offering. It's a mix of pellets, seeds and nuts. What the heck!! I ordered a ceramic dish that has a covering but if that doesn't work I'm going to order the one Thomas suggested. Northern Parrots doesn't ship to the USA. Thanks again!!

I get the messy eater part of it. I clean up the bits of veggies he flicks off his beak without complaint. It's the fact that he is looking me in the eye with the foot full of food and throwing it in my general direction, that I resent. He is such a stinker!

Sheeba would throw her food whenever I put her in the cage. Her way of getting back at me for not letting her stay out while I clean house or go to work!

Ruby seems to have changing tastes. At times she'll pick out a certain type of nut that's part of her food mix and throw them all on the floor. Assuming I haven't cleaned up yet I'll then spot her later on in the day (or the next day) going down to the ground and eating the same nut(s) she'd previously chucked out.
She is a nut all by herself lol.

Mitzi has phases of liking one type of nut such as almonds or walnuts or hazelnuts so I buy more of that type then she goes off that particular type. (Monty just eats whatever he gets his beak on)
Mitzi thinks that if she throws a Nutriberry down I will give her another but I have to be strict with her, I point to it and tell her that there is one on the floor. In the end she quietly goes down and retrieves it.
