I read that a nine foot reticulated python called Turin escaped from his home on Saturday and is still on the loose in Cambridge. He escaped from a window after the person who was snake sitting didn't close his vivarium properly. He was last seen slithering along a road in the early hours of Sunday but hasn't been seen since. He is likely to be frightened because he has never been out before. I think it is sad.
An expert has said he could eat rabbits and chickens and is unlikely to attack anything larger, but although they suffocate their prey he could give a small child a nasty bite because reticulated pythons have sharp teeth designed to stop their prey escaping.
The advice if he is spotted is to phone 101 which is the national police non-emergency number. I think if I spotted him I would dial 999, the emergency number, for all sorts of reasons! Jane

I do not like snakes. At one vet visit, a couple brought in a big sick snake called Fluffy. Fluffy did not make it. The woman was crying her eyes out so she obviously loved it. I can’t see myself having such a pet.

He was recaptured yesterday evening. He was up a tree in a garden about 160 feet away from his home and several neighbours helped to retrieve him. He has scratches and a swollen gum.

I always liked snakes and wanted one myself. My husband is very tolerant of all our animals, but he draws the line at snakes. Two of my sisters have snakes and I am jealous.
Recently, one sister's kids left the tank open and their little 15" snake escaped. He was missing for 3 weeks and then showed up on their kitchen counter. His tank was in the upstairs bathroom. I am still so amazed at how he somehow got downstairs, then climbed the kitchen counters. We considered him traveling through the drains, but those holes are way too small, and they have a garbage disposal. Also, after 3 weeks, we thought he might be dead. We were all quite happy that he was still just fine.
