Apparently we're adding a 2 year old Quaker to the household. My daughter's friend moved to Florida and no one at his house is taking care of the bird at all. She went there today to talk to his sister and there was no food or water in the cage. His mom said the poop had made the swing out door stuck so she couldn't get food in there, she told her to pick it up tomorrow morning. Any suggestions of how to introduce him to Hector? I'll have to make an appointment at my vet but they have no other birds in the house so I'm assuming it doesn't have anything contagious. I have a small house so there's not too much seperation. The new bird will stay in the bedroom until the vet clears it.

It is difficult to say how any two birds will get on, especially birds of different species. Greys can be jealous. A member had a Grey then got an Eclectus. She thought they were getting on okay but then the Grey got into the Eclectus's cage and attacked her.
I had Monty and Mitzi in adjacent cages to start with to see how they reacted to each other. Monty and Mitzi are very different in personality, Monty is much more gentle and tolerant than Mitzi.

I had one cage in the front of the house and one cage at the back of the house. The birds could hear each other without seeing each other. One was a cockatiel and ruled the house. Chyloe was afraid of her even though she was so much bigger.
My first grey would try to catch the tiel. His wings were clipped so he could only get close to her before losing altitude. Hers were not clipped so she could zoom around the house. If she was sitting on the back of a chair looking out of the window, the CAG would try to jump on her. Same thing if she was sitting on me. He would try to jump on her to make her move. They never became friends. He was jealous of her.

So far so good. They're in the same room now. the cages are several feet apart and noone is out unsupervised and only one at a time.
