Stupid me - I left one of the doors in ruby's indoor cage open when I went to work yesterday. I came home and went into a panic when she was not in her cage and didn't answer my calls. (The cage is indoors and it's Florida in the summer so no worries about any windows being open to facilitate a catastrophic "external" escape, but still .... ) Anyway I found her upstairs in my bedroom on a tree perch I have for her there. She was quiet and amazingly did virtually no damage to the house which surprised me because when I'm there and she's "out and about" she finds her way into all kinds of mischief. The only good thing I did was I have a habit of turning off all ceiling fans before I leave just in the event of this type of possible mishap. Anyway, the story has a satisfactory ending but "wake-up" call for me to be more careful. Chris

I am glad she was a good girl. Chy is like that. When we leave her alone, she will sit on top of her cage or go back into the cage. Our first grey would have destroyed the house if he got out when we were not home.

I worked with a guy who had a brother that had a cockatoo.
Came home to his custom oak headboard in splinters........

It is almost as if Ruby realised something wasn't right and thought she had better behave herself!

Yes Jane, that was my thought exactly. When I came to her upstairs the look on her face was very unusual. It was almost fear - something was different and out of sorts. She 'stepped up' to me so fast I was surprised!
Love her! XOXO

I wish Manzi was like that. He escaped once years ago, and he pulverized my laptop. Luckily it was insured, but I literally carried the hundreds of little bits in a grocery bag to the repair guy and he said he had never seen anything like it. I was pretty upset with Manzi. When I had opened the door to my apartment, he flew back to his cage with a key from the keyboard still in his beak.

Both the lower left ('Fn' key) and lower right (right-arrow key) on my laptop are history, and that was with Ruby right next to me while I was working. I think the AG beak is the perfect instrument to pluck keys off of a laptop - she did it in the blink of an eye. I can't imagine Ruby alone with my laptop for any period of time .... oh wow .....

My first grey did that with my husband's laptop while he was using it. He just flew in and plucked a key right off the keyboard and left with it.
