Beaker scared the crap out of himself.
I bought these sea grass mats for him to chew up and he will have nothing to do with them.
He thinks they are parrot eating monsters.
Just has a fit when he sees one.
So I put them away for months.
We put one on the top of his cage and he refused to climb up, his opinion has not changed about them.
I told my son to put it in the dining room and that Beaker was freaking out with it on his cage.
So, I am cleaning the stove and I can hear Beaker walking into the kitchen.
I didn't see it, but I know he turned the corner and ran face to face with the mat I had my son move.
I heard flapping (no screaming) and papers were flying around from the wing beating.
Beaker high tailed it back to his cage and didn't come out for hours.
I am putting the mat in an area I don't want him in as he chewed on the door moulding there.
It appears it will work better then scolding him for being where he isn't supposed to be.

You found a good use for the mat, to keep Beaker away from the door moulding.
It will be interesting to see if, in time, his fear of the mat will be overcome by his desire to get back to chewing the door moulding.

My first grey, Max, was a terror for destroying things around the house. When he was afraid of something, I would put it near an item he was trying to destroy. It only worked until he got over his fear. Then he would destroy the item he had previously been frightened of.
