For those who have been following this three page thread: africangreyparrot.info/thread/8086/?page=1 Just to let you know I have now had my follow up appointment. The November CT scan was normal, the white patches that showed in the first one were due to the severe infection. I have a slightly reduced lung capacity but not anything to cause concern. I don't have to have any further appointments. I can keep the parrots but I still have to wear the face masks. I don't cuddle or kiss them any more which I really miss but at least I can keep them. That is great news, an infection can be healed, and your birds will help you get thru it. They will adjust to the masks, maybe temporary ? Congrats,

"I can keep the parrots" are the magic words. It would be totally heartbreaking to have to give them up. Keep up the good health.

Thank you all. Yes, I am so relieved. The thought I might have to re-home them was such a worry.

That's great news Jane. Are the face masks going to be a permanent thing? What about adding more air filters around their cages?

Yes I think the face masks are permanent. Since I posted in February thinking I didn't need any more appointments, I had a letter from the consultant saying the radiologist has recommended that I have another CT scan next year.
I am wondering about another air purifier, the one I have should be sufficient for the size of the room but the dust still gets everywhere.

I am sorry about the face masks Jane. As a registered nurse though I have seen many patients who have had some reversal of their symptoms with improvement over time when they are compliant with doctors orders, which I know you are. I agree with you about the air purifier maybe add another, I have noticed the past few months since Sid has not been getting the sun rays that he was used to before my divorce that he is now losing many small feathers and downy ones every time he flies adding to the already heavy dander. I have ordered an avian lamp to see if that helps. Prayers for you Jane,
