Hello, my name is Lela and I have my first African Grey abs her name is Zelda. She is two years old. I need your opinion on this issue. I work the graveyard shift, five nights in a row. I will be taking Zelda to work with me so that we can spend lots of time together. If I don’t take her to work with me, she’ll b home alone all. night which I guess isn’t so bad since she would just be sleeping at home anyway. But I want to spend lots of time with her and I can at work. If I don’t bring her. Thst mends she will get about one hour attention from me in the morning when I get home from work then be alone while I sleep for 6 or 7 hrs then get about two hours attention before I go back to work. Would keeping her awake at night while at work with me affect her hrskth and well being. Although, while at work with me, I can have her in s dark room sleeping for most of my shift and just play with her on my breaks. Is it probable that she may sleep awhile during the day while I’m sleeping or is it absolute that a bird will stay awake during daytime hours

Hello and welcome to the forum. They should have a good night's sleep. I think taking her to work would be disruptive for her, especially if she had gone to sleep in a dark room and then you woke her up during your breaks. I think it would be better to give her your undivided attention in the morning and in the evening. You could leave a radio on during the day and make sure she has plenty of toys.

I have to totally agree with Jane as lack of sleep has caused health issues with my Rudy. Keep in mind that if you worked a day job you would probably spend about an hour with your bird in the morning and then a few hours in the evening anyway. So no need to disrupt her regular schedule by taking her to work with you at night. It is important she not get bored so have plenty of toys for her to play with when she is alone.
