Hi, our Alex (17 years) is an amazing talker! I have been reading about Dr Pepperberg's work. She talks about her Alex and her other Greys "practicing" new words. Alex doesn't "practice" much, unless it is to get the exact intonation and nuance. I taught him the word "parsley" when I picked a sprig from my organic raised garden bed yesterday, and hand fed it to him (washed it, of course). He learned "parsley" that morning. He did not previously know the word. Alex learns new words very very quickly. What is your experience? Attachments:

That is awesome!! My male, Manzi, takes a week or so to learn a new word. Maui, my female, can learn words more quickly, but still a couple of days. Often, both birds will be quiet when strangers are around, then Maui will copy them a couple days later.
How are his sentences? I noticed with by my birds that they seem to have a max of around 7-9 syllables.
I imagine your Alex will copy everyone in the household pretty quickly and also call them by name! He sounds great. I look forward to funny stories!!

We have a shih tzu and a shih poo (spoiled little pups). Alexm my grey, is constantly telling them what to do (this is a good example of his sentences): Alex says to the pups, "Go lie down and get your bone;" "Go on now and eat your food;" "Get a drink of water and go outside;" "Settle down, time to go to sleep" . . .
I bet Manzi and Maui are adorable! I would love to hear all about them. Take care
