So my girl rj has never been a flyer if she gets a fright will fly across the room so I always have had her cage open she chats away calls us over etc.
But now........ She climbs down off her cage and goes in search for me chewing anything along the way (we have a lot of nice wood furniture I'm worryed but getting her beak into I also have 2 cats. Already had cat rodeo once as bird decided to go over cat rather than round cat took off and bird hung on laughing. Our poor 3 legged old boy has been weary of rj ever since. But I'm off track. I now can't leave her cage open as she will only step up onto me usually so now my partner can't open cage wile I'm at work. we can't leave house open in case she decides to go for a walk. Have tryed bribery to keep her on her cage but no luck any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Maybe you should try socializing her with your partner and teach her to step up for him? Let him train her for 10-15 minutes every day offering her favorite treats as a reward. Unfortunately I don't have experience yet, but I've read a lot about it, and it seems to work for other parrot owners! If it doesn't work this way, you could start training her by yourself and then introduce your partner's hand as a human perch, without him actually interacting with her. When she gets used to perching on his hand and doesn't freak out anymore, he could move on to actually training her. I've been thinking a lot about socializing my new friend with other family members and my future partner, so I will definitely try it!

My Chyloe cannot grow flight feathers on her left wing so she walks too. When we are home, her cage is always open. She slides down her cage and walks around. We don't have other pets so that is not a worry. She doesn't chew the furniture but does go after wooden baseboards or wooden door frames. Then I order her back to her house. Even so, we have a couple of repairs to do.

That sounds like my Maui. Manzi can fly and will fly around the house. Maui is more of a floor wanderer. I try to keep her somewhat barricaded and entertained in certain parts of the house. She loves boxes, so I give her boxes in the main living area. I don't think you can stop them from wandering except by locking them in their cage. Continually giving them new toys may help, but it seems once they get the wandering bug, they continue to wander very determinedly.

My grey, Sheeba, is also a floor walker. She doesn't fly and she likes to wander, which is okay, but only when I am home alone, everyone else is not looking for her on the floor, so she has to stay on her cage, with my constant vigilance. She understands"NO" and will go back up when I see her ready to get on the floor.
She also has a perch stand, which she will stay on about 90% of the time. Fortunately, she has no interest in chewing the wood furniture and baseboards.

My Ruby understand "NO" also. She just consistently chooses to ignore the command although she does enjoy saying the word when she's being naughty.

My girl, Ash, is slowly destroying our house. Not sure how a creature 9" tall and weighs 440 grams can destroy everything in a house that isn't stone or metal, but she is working at it.
If a door is open, well she'll try to chew through it. Wood chairs, sawdust. Baseboards.. what baseboards.
Before we purchased Ash, 12 years ago, I read books on African Greys. I thought I was prepared. Not one of those books said that pound for pound there is not a messier creature on Earth, and except for termites possibly, nothing more destructive.
Lucky for Ash we love her and she balances her destruction with incredible cuteness.

A guy I worked with had a brother who had a cockatoo.
He made the mistake of letting it out when he went to work.
It destroyed his custom oak headboard, but I bet it had a lot of fun doing it.

Thank you for all ur ideas and story's I'm in the prowess of making a free standing perch but I work a lot so haven't had much time to work on it. I have tryed so hard to socialize her with my partner and daughter but she had a rough upbringing b4 I got her which has put her off people but men mainly has taken me along time to gain her trust well worth it tho.
