I have inherited an African grey called Shira from a lady I helped out looking after all her birds. She sadly became I'll and had to give up all her birds and she gave me Shira, I've had him the last 2months and I don't know if he is still settling in or getting lazy or if something is up as he would normally chat away at least 5 times a day but now all he does is whistle at you but only when he feels like it. He doesn't seem to eat swell as he did at his old place but hard to say as I was only there to put food in and when a I came back the next day most of it was gone. But now he will only eat sweet corn on the cob and pea pods and apple. He quite often opens his mouth as if to wretch but doesn't. He has also taken from being awake most of the day to sleeping. I don't know if he is bored or stressed as he is now in a cage and he used to be in an aviary and he is now also on his own from having over 20 other birds with him.

Hello and welcome to the forum. He will be missing his old home and the previous set up with other birds in the aviary. It is a big change for him and it sounds like he is finding it hard to adjust and is depressed. However, sometimes the stress of a change like this can cause illnesses that were previously being kept under control by the immune system to develop. Not eating and sleeping most of the day are worrying signs. Have you got an an avian vet you could take him to?

Have you tried letting him out of his cage? In addition to missing his old family (lady and birds), he is now confined to a smaller space. He might cheer up if he has a chance to wander around his new home.
I would definitely take him for a checkup with an avian vet.

I haven't really let him out and even when he was his usual self he didn't seem I retested in getting out the cage. He did get out once and he just sat on the curtain rail. I hope even though it's not good but I hope he is depressed rather than I'll. It's just sad watching him do nothing really. He hasn't whistled once today.
