Another question,Blinky (My rescued CAG) has never said a word since I adopted him. He is 15. Will he ever speak? It doesn't bother me any. I think it's cute that he is a quiet baby bird but just wondering if it is possible for him to start talking at the age of 15?

Does he make other sounds (whistles, microwave oven, etc)? I've heard some say with their AG that they whistle and therefore aren't motivated to talk. Our bird was very "noisy" when we got her @ 3 months (a lot of whistling) which they thought was a good sign she would talk eventually and they were right. She whistles, imitates sounds, and (when she feels like it haha!) will talk up a storm. But a lot of the day (most, even) I'd say she's very quiet. The exception is when the sun rises and she always launches into a whole lot of whistling.
I would just keep talking to him all the time - regardless of whether he eventually talks I think this is good for building a relationship and bonding.

If an African Grey does not talk by the time it is 2 years old, it is very doubtful that it will ever talk. The ones that do talk later than 2 usually say only a few words.
My first grey started talking at 6 months. My current grey, Chyloe, was talking in sentences at 5 months.

Oh man . That's okay though. When I was first thinking about getting an AG I was so excited about the idea of him talking to me. He is my first bird . I took 4 classes to be able to rescue him but it's a lot more confusing when you actually have one. Lol . He whistles all day. Honestly, the relationship we are building is so fulfilling that I do not even care if he ever says a word. I love that little guy. It's such a different bond than having a doc or something like a common pet. He is like a child and I literally have him out and around with me all day. Definitely my favorite pet I have ever had.

newbiecag-your bird may just be acclimating to his new environment. Birds like Amazons are more outgoing and social than Greys. You may find your Grey will begin to talk (at 15 years, he must have been exposed to lots of language, hopefully not profane!). I always bring my visitors past the big cage on the side of the room, just mentioning the occupant there. This peaks the bird's interest. Then we go out on the porch and sit and talk and laugh, and he gets more curious and jealous being left out. I always tell people to just ignore him, and soon, we are hearing from the other room, "Let's party!" or "Hello!" or one of his whistled songs. Greys definitely WILL NOT perform on cue!! Again, patience is the key. Another Grey owner told me that they talk more when no one is in the room!
