I was watching a TV programme last night about all the wildlife in gardens. There is a white spider called a Crab spider which doesn't make webs to catch prey but uses camouflage to hide among plants and then creeps up on unsuspecting prey. These spiders can even change colour to match a flower. There are also Bumblebees who can steal nectar from flowers without pollinating them. They bite holes in the flowers to get the nectar rather than entering the flower in the usual way.

I am concerned about the wildlife in my garden. Some kind of insect is eating the leaves on my bean vines. It must happen at night as I never see them. Chipmunks, squirrels and rabbits are eating the strawberries and tomatoes. At least I haven't had a moose in the backyard like a neighbour.

I came face to face with a coyote on my patio!
Scared the heck out of me.

In my neighborhood it is not uncommon to look out the window in the early morning and see a bear sitting in the backyard. Our security man said that on one night during rounds he actually saw a Florida panther, now that would scare me. The bear if left alone will move on. Love nature. My neighbors actually bring in their bird feeders at night so not to tease the bears.

It is interesting how insects just appear and eat their speciality. If you have lilies, red lily beetles suddenly appear and eat them.
I have had nothing larger than squirrels, frogs and hedgehogs. Hedgehogs are in decline so not many of those either.

Extremely rare - your security guy was super-lucky.

We get mostly squirrels, digging up our plants, making my wife angry! Lot's of hummingbirds and I have nest boxes for the chickadees and finches. A few years ago we had a big problem with raccoons, they seemed to be fascinated with our fountains, they would rip apart the little pumps and tear up the electric cords. I relocated a few and haven't seen any since. There are coyotes, they are always down by the creek, but I have never seen any. A few miles east, on my bike rides, I have seen cougars.
In 2014-16 we had a problem with rats, huge Norwegian wharf rats. The neighbor also had the smaller roof rats in his attic. They would run all over the yard in the evening. I killed over 120 in 3 years. Haven't seen any this year.
