Hey guys, my name is Peter and got a baby boy CAG named Tweety(d.o.b. 24.3) on thursday from a breeder. I did a extensive reasearch prior to the purchase and was warned that the transition period would be about 10 days and that I should leave the bird alone for a couple of days and that I shouldn't let him out of the cage right away. When we got home, he was growling for like 30 minutes but then stopped. He didn't hesitate to eat out of my hand from the first day and even let me pet him. I'm suprised how cuddly he is let's me pet him anywhere I want, whenever I approach him he bows his head. Whenever I let him out of the cage he flies straight on top of my head and then onto my shoulder. I was suprised that he never bites only nibbles on fingers. The breeder suggested that we continue hand feeding him twice a day for a week or two so that's what we are doing. I have a question. whenever I walk into the room and call his name he responds by a chirp and then opens up his beak as if to talk/bite. What does it mean? Attachments:

Wow congrats Peter (and Tweety) - sounds like you have a great bird! As to your question, my opinion only, it sounds like you have a bird that is going to be a good talker! That he is interacting with you and responding when you speak bodes well for the future as far as a good talking bird (which let's face it is one of the incredible blessings of these creatures!).
I would keep talking and and talking and talking to him .... you never know what they will pick up on. Ruby is a Timneh (which they say talk sooner than a Congo) didn't really say anything intelligible until a year (whistling came quicker - i.e. the "pretty girl" whistle) so be patient but no doubt you will be rewarded!

Welcome to the forum.
It sounds like Tweety is settling in nicely. When you enter the room and say his name, he chirps to greet you. You will find him doing it when you are out of the room also. He will wonder where you are and call to you.
Keep talking to him as if to a child. Tell him what you are doing and where you are going.
My Chyloe started talking in sentences when she was 5 months old. Some greys mumble first to practise and others, like Chy, come right out and talk.

Welcome, sounds like you are on the right track to a great relationship.
Remember that when you have him on your shoulder while you're in the bathroom..........

Thanks guys, although talking would be great, I won't hold it against him if he never talks. He's a very quiet bird, some chirping and moaninng like a human baby but that's it. I ordered a bird harness so we can go out eventually. What are your thoughts on those?

Hello and welcome to the forum. He is still being hand fed so he associates seeing you with that too. With harnesses the earlier the better because it can be very difficult to get them on older birds.
