I didn't know the word rook. I thought it was a crow, but then I looked it up and realized it is just very similar. I used to have a crow as a kid. My neighbor saved it from a cat right when I was walking by and she was happy to hand it over to me. It had an injured wing and was still a baby. I just fed it several times per day and after a couple weeks began taking in out to exercise. A couple of months later it became good enough at flying that it flew away.
Every time I took it outside, it would call and lots of other crows would come and began dive bombing me. I would only last a couple minutes and then would have to go inside because they got pretty intense.
My little guy was very friendly towards me and definitely favored me. It wouldn't go to anyone else in my family and my mom was not happy with it in our house. I would let it hop/fly around the house and just clean up after it. He was quite clever. I was very sad to see him finally leave, even though it was for the best and he was finally able to join his friends.

We have a large group of crows that live in our neighborhood. I have Sheeba in an outside cage a few hours a day and they will make their loud calls, and of course Sheeba makes the same call back to them. They get some of Sheeba's leftovers. A few times a year there will be larger groups of them that show up for a "convention" and make a lot of noise for a few hours from the trees at 6am, then it will stop suddenly, not a sound from them for 10 minutes or so, then it starts again. Very strange.
They are extremely intelligent, I have seen them pick up walnuts off the ground and carry them up in the air and drop them so they would break when they hit the street below.

Crows are very smart.
I remember watching a guy walk out of his backyard with a broom and they ignored him.
He walked out later with a shotgun and they scattered!
