Ruby had some toys that had those cute little shoes (sneakers) attached to them and of course being a good AG she destroyed them with gusto pretty quickly. Since it seemed the shoes were her favorite part of the toy I did some research and found you can buy them by themselves - they come in a package of 6 with each sneaker being a different color.
Long story short, she destroyed all of them as expected EXCEPT FOR the yellow one. This one not only did she not destroy, she won't even go near it! This has proven to be serendipitous because I now have a tool in my arsenal to prevent the unwanted destruction of useful household objects. For example, Ruby loves to get up on the cable box and start chewing on it - a definite no-no. Now that I put a yellow sneaker on the top of the box it's quite safe (at least for now).
Figuring out that she hated the yellow sneaker made me realize that, of the toys that she just never seemed interested in or like, they almost always have some yellow in them.
These birds never seem to cease to amaze - anyone have any similar stories?

Interesting. I have heard of some Greys on the forum not liking the colour red and also if they have coloured pellets not eating one of the colours.

Beaker would have a fit if my son wore a certain red shirt.

My first grey would be afraid of certain new toys. I would then use a scary toy to keep him away from something I didn't want destroyed. Of course, the toy didn't stay scary long enough and I had to find another way to stop him from destroying things.

Sheeba hates this light grey checkered flannel shirt I have, if I try and pick her up when I wear it, she will go for blood. So that shirt just hangs in the closet. There are these large brown parrot toys, some sort of fiber/wood chewy thing. Sheeba wouldn't go near her cage when I put it inside!
They can be funny!

I got a new hedge trimmer today and it has a red flex. Mitzi is used to seeing the hoover flex which is black but she decided that the red flex needed a good growling at.

Oh yeah, Chris. Color has always been very important to my Bob. When he was a baby and had umpteen foot toys in his cage, he would pile all the yellow/orange ones in one place, all the beige/brown in another, and all the blue/purples together. These really are amazing animals. Bob's FAVORITE is yellow! Isn't that funny? He pretty much HATES purple. I have a purple duster on a stick, and when he sees it, he begins to growl! I once had him on my shoulder when I pulled out my new debit card, which had a purplish background picture, and he growled and lunged, and flung himself off of my shoulder to attack it. You never now what will suddenly set them off. I tell people it's like being the Pink Panther, living with Kato-he would hide and attack him when he didn't expect it, to keep his reflexes sharp!
