Bumble bees can learn to move a ball. Scientists have trained them to push a ball to the middle of a pitch by rewarding them with sugar released from the ball each time. The bees were trained in three situations. One group observed a previously trained bee move the furthest ball to the centre, a second group were shown a demonstration in which the ball itself moved (using a magnet under the pitch) while a third group simply found the ball already at the centre. The bees learnt best by watching another bee, but instead of just copying, they would choose the closest ball to move rather than the furthest. www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4253202/Bees-taught-play-FOOTBALL.html Jane
