Hi! I'm new to the forum and could use some advice. I have had birds in my life was trying to find a hand fed baby but didn't find any in the area. We did find a beautiful rescue CAG ..no leg band, no idea how old..was told he was a breeder. On his toenails is missing but it looks like a tip is there. He Doesn't growl. He peeps once and awhile and I did hear him say hello twice. But he isn't into talking yet. I do make him come out of his cage by opening the top. He will step up on my hand and I take him to his play stand perch. He will take a grape from my hand but doesn't want me to touch him. He will bite if not distracted when I have him step up..He does try to fly away but his feathers are clipef. He steps right up from the ground. He must have had a bad diet. He doesn't like pellets. Mostly sunflower Seeds and nuts. Doesn't like vegetables. Although at dinner time he did eat mashed potatoes, rutabaga, and cooked butternut squash.i cooked a sweet potato he didn't like that or cooked egg..I don't won't him to be cage bound. we've had him about I month.. what should we be doing to get him use to us ( we are both home all the time) and to get him eating a better diet?

Hello and welcome to the forum. It will take him time to settle in but it is good that he will step up and take food from you. Just take it as his pace, spend time with him, talking to him, giving him treats. He might never have had a leg band or it might have been removed if it had been causing a problem. He will decide who can touch him and where, not all Greys allow touching or they only allow certain people to touch them. Changing diet is usually a slow and gradual process, especially if he has been eating sunflower seeds and nuts for a long time. They do tend to be much more keen to try food when you are eating it.
