Hello I am new to this site and I wanted to let y'all know I have a 9 in a half week old African grey that I got from a local Houston Texas pet store. it's a girl and her name is Juliet. She is a really nice friendly parrot and still hand fed formula, but now starting to eat little seeds. Haven't fed it veggies or fruits yet I need help in finding out when I should feed it veggies and fruits and when I should buy I cage for it he is still contained in a big box with heating pad and padding. She poops normal but sometimes when I feed her formula she's poops brown liquidity water poo but you can still see the poo I want to know if that's he formula or if she is okay? Ps her feathers are fully grown I'm just still worried to put her in a cage.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Juliet looks a lovely bird. You can start offering chopped up fruit and veg (no avocado). Greys are usually weaned by 10 to 12 weeks but some take longer and there is no rush. In the wild they stay in the nest until they are around 10 weeks old. Has she been showing any signs of climbing around or wanting to get out of the box? They can be unsteady on their feet while learning to perch so you may need to put the perches low down in the cage and pad the bottom of the cage to start with but many baby Greys will still climb up the bars and some baby Greys will still sleep on the floor of the cage.

Yes, it will take her time to get used to it and to learn how to navigate around in it. This is a big change for her but even adult Greys can be nervous and stubborn about anything new, from cages to perches, toys etc. Keep an eye on her and make sure she continues to eat and drink. Mine are in a big cage and I cover it at night with a big sheet.

Thank you so much Jane and I will definitely make sure to keep a eye she is a lovely sweet bird. By the way this is random but do you know if it's okay to keep the fan on in my room or it's better for it to be off?
By the way what kind of fresh fruits and veggies I should give her?

I have put this reply about the fan in your perching thread too. Do you mean in terms of the overall room temperature? Generally speaking if it comfortable for you it will be for her. A cold bird will fluff up the feathers, an overheated bird will have its beak ajar and pant. The main thing is that she isn't in a draft. They can have all sorts of fruit and veg (but not avocado which is poisonous) Mushrooms and onions should also be avoided. Mine like peas, apple, carrot, sugar snap peas, grapes, cherries, blueberries. See also: africangreyparrot.info/thread/4235/food-good-badJane

You are doing a great job with your little one. The cage looks pretty nice and soon enough she'll be climbing all around it. They can be pretty uncoordinated when young and may fall and stumble. They figure things out and with good nurturing on your part, she'll grow confident and happy.

Chy has had three regular cages and one travel cage. Every time I get her a new cage, she cowers in the corner for days. It takes most greys quite a while to become comfortable in a new environment. She will eventually climb all over the cage and enjoy herself.

So beautiful. Juliet will eventually be an expert climber.
