Just after thanksgiving I rescued a 15 year old CAG from a not so desirable home. He was tortured by 5 dogs, never let out of his cage, the owner was an indoor smoker and worst of all, he had been plucking. When I got him I changed his name and bought him a new cage that is fun and does not smell like smoke. I got him changed over from mostly sunflower seeds and junk food to pellets and fresh fruits and veggies. He seemed to be very happy with his new home and surroundings...he didn't go through the whole depression stage. For whatever reason now he won't eat any fresh fruits or veggies no matter how it is given to him. I am working diligently to get him to stop plucking. He is now moulting and has copped a huge attitude with both me and my husband. I bought a shower perch and put him in the shower at least once a week because he is more dusty than a normal "taken care of" bird would be. He is the only bird I've ever had that didn't like a shower. Murphy has come a long way in 4 months but 15 years of bad habits is hard to break. I just hope he eventually figures out he is loved now.

He is not alone in not liking showers. Those of us who have water-hating birds resort to spraying them. One member uses an air spray to get rid of the dust.
As far as him no longer eating fruit, try eating it in front of him with a great show of enjoyment. Then offer it off your plate. They love to eat what you are having.
