Hello, my name is Sarah. I'm 36, female and engaged. I am interested in owning a CAG one day, and have been doing years of research. I need to have a home that I know we can keep for more than two years. How much like blue and gold macaw are CAGs? My Mom had a b&g once, but it was a very poorly attended to bird. He did not pluck his feathers, but he did not behave too well. He loved me though! He would do dishes with me and we both learned how to move to do dishes. He did that so often that he just learned how often I would bend over and how to use my shirts as handles/beak holds. My mom didn't own him long enough to learn how to not make holes. My one shirt had a few. And he learned how to dust with me. He wasn't so sure about the vacuum. It was something to compete with vocally though! My Mom eventually got rid of him because she was pissed he liked me better. Now I want a CAG because they are so intelligent. Still learning and wanting to know as much as I can. And preventative actions for scissor beak (if it can be prevented or if it just how some bird mouths form) and nail and beak care.

I used to want a B&G for a while. I think B&Gs are adorable. They can definitely be a lot louder than CAGs. From my limited experience with macaws, it seems that CAGs tend to chatter and make a lot of different noises, whereas macaws seem to be slightly more limited in vocals.
My CAG Manzi used to punch holes in my shirts, but he hasn't done that in a long time. It wasn't ever just for fun, it was when he would lose his balance or try to climb.

He lost it out the year my Mom had a bat that had mylar dangling from it. Also, he liked the kitty cat. Indie touched my cat on the head when the cat was belly up in my arms. The cat *freaked* and ran. Damnbigbird. I'm sure it was a whole thought.

He never intended to make the holes. He gripped took hard as he climbed.

I have a friend with 2 blue and gold macaws. They tend to be loud and not as adept at talking. They are sweet. The thing I really notice is their weight. I don't mind my CAG riding around on my arm for hours. A B&G is so much heavier which can be tiring.

Yes, that is why Indigo actually spent most of our cleaning time on my back, and yes against all advice he would occasionally end up on my shoulder. And yes, for a bird he was heavy! I called him my pretty chicken.
