I watched a programme on TV last night about baby pandas. They are so adorable. They were in a reserve in China where a breeding programme is trying to save them from extinction. The mothers usually have twins and then reject one of the twins, so in that situation each twin was left with the mother for five days then switched. During that time the other twin was looked after by the human mother substitutes who did everything the mother panda would do. The mother panda didn't realise the switch was going on because they distracted her with bamboo while carrying it out.

Pandas look so adorable. That switching was a good idea.

What TV program was that? I remember seeing something about them switching the babies as well. It is really interesting that the mothers do not realize their babies are being switched out. I would have thought their sense of smell is strong enough to notice the difference. It is a great way to be sure that both babies have interaction with their mother.
Jane, I love your recommendations about TV programs. I had watched that cat one also. Thanks.

It was on ITV and called Panda Babies. I think the humans have to make sure they don't transfer any human scent to the babies.
