Hi everyone,
I just joined the group. I am the very proud new owner of a CAG. His name is Sinbad and he is 30 years old. Tomorrow (10/2/15) makes one week that he has been apart of my life. I'm so very happy that I have him. His previous owner informed me that he has cataracts in one eye. But, the more he is with me I am starting to think that it is in both eyes. I plan to take him to the vet very soon.
I really can't believe how attached we are to each other in such a short amount of time. Last night, he sat on my chest while I rubbed his neck and he fell asleep. Now I can pet him like you would a cat or dog.

Welcome to the forum.
It is wonderful that you are getting along so well so soon. Let us know about the cataracts.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sinbad has certainly settled in quickly, he sounds lovely. I saw a programme on TV a few years ago about a 43 year old African Grey having an operation for cataracts. They had planned to do both eyes but they had to stop after doing one because the anaesthetic was getting too risky.

Congratulations Shana
It does seem that he settled in quickly...from my past experience with birds it can sometimes take awhile for them to be comfortable in new surroundings.
My own CAG is just over a year old and although she sometimes can be a real drama queen I love her to bits.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I will definitely let ya'll know what the vet says about his eyes. Now to find him a bigger cage!!! LOL!!! Not that he stays in it much. Question:
My family and I travel about twice a year, staying gone for about a week each time. My hubby says that Sinbad can just go with us when we do cause we always rent condos. What do ya'll think about that? Would it upset him to much or should we take him? We have great friends that come and take care of the rest of our animals, we have a small farm, when we are gone. So, they would take care of him also. He would just be in his cage all day and all night.

Shana,
I recently took my CAG to a family wedding on a game-farm (with their consent, of course) and she thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Since I had a slight issue with her temporary cage she stayed on my lap for anywhere between 7 and 9 hours without once trying to fly off. She has a deformed foot which seems to throw her off-balance when she tries to fly but in your case if you do take her with you I would suggest clipping her wings.

My first grey would be upset for days when we travelled. Chyloe is her loving self when we get back from a trip. It helps that we have good friends who let her out of her cage while we are away.
You could try taking Sinbad on short day trips to see how he handles travelling. We take Chy on summer picnics where she entertains kids in parks.
