I know this must be have been addressed before, but I am not finding it. Sid has gotten hormonal AGAIN. He apparently does not know how to handle it, he is normally very sweet, He now shows the posturing , wings slightly outward, head downward , (reminder he is fully flighted) and will fly to my husbands neck and bite very badly, will fly to my shoulder but I will not tolerate and anticipate bad things and I move forward to make him fly off avoiding a bite, but when I ask him to step up he will, then bow down -to bite, I of course will drop my hand to avoid it. He also will attack the other smaller birds knocking them off their perches. so I have to keep them locked up. In the past I have always had him trimmed a little to limit his flying and of course he will always get neurotic at that point, If only I could get thru this and get my sweet bird back. Help Adele. He normally does so well flighted. Do I sound desperate ?

Hi Susan,
On the blue strip at the top of the page is a Search button. Enter hormonal in there and press Search. It brings up your post plus the old ones on the same subject.

Since moving 2 years ago and it is now just Sid and me, he has adjusted so well. well here comes the big molt, and I guess hormonal too, once last week he flew in from behind and gave me a big bite on the back of the neck, and again just now. Only when my back is turned to him and I am working in the kitchen. I envision him doing this to a female CAG in the wild and mating. Will just have to keep my eyes on him at all times until he is over this. When I look at him just after he does this he gives me the 'What' look. Could almost laugh if it didn't hurt so much.

I guess I am lucky to have a female. She never gets hostile and never gets a big molt. Although the vet told me it is because she eats pellets that she never gets a big molt, only losing a feather or two here and there.
I hope Sid mellows out again soon.

Haz Sid has always eaten pellets also, the big molt only seems to come about every 2 years. Hopefully within the next week or so he will chill out. He has been fine since, but I will not turn my back when he is flying around the house.

Adele's Manzi got very aggressive towards her when he decided he wanted to spend time with Maui. He bit Adele's finger badly but when Maui laid an egg and was devoting her time to the egg Manzi got bored and calmed down again.
I am wondering if there is something you could wear that might put Sid off landing on you and biting during this time.
I notice Mitzi molting more than Monty; she probably has a different diet to him because she eats a lot more Nutriberries.

Jane Jane, I can't see that I have done anything different, he has gotten me now 3 times in 2 weeks, would have been more but I am now on to him. Out of the blue last night when I came home from work, he was just as sweet as pie, no pinning of the eyes so I let him step up and we had nightly tickles on the head. Can't figure it out.

If he specifically bites the back of your neck, maybe even try putting a small hand towel around your neck. That might just tick him off even more though and make him more aggressive.
I think this time of the year has been tough. They can be so up and down!! When Manzi was like that with just me, the best thing was to just avoid situations that made him more breedy. For instance, trick training always made him start doing the droopy wings/squeaking noises and eventual regurgitation, so I'd put that on hold, or do very short sessions.
That is great that he was sweet again last night. Hopefully it is getting towards the end of the breeding season and he'll snap out of it. Manzi has already been calming down. He's definitely not back to how he was earlier this year, but we're in a much better place than we were a couple months ago, where he wanted to kill me at times.

He loves me again, Woo-Hoo. Still molting but less. That hard focused look in his eyes is gone, hope not to see it again.
