Around here we usually get only black or grey squirrels. Last year I saw a small red squirrel in our garden. It was so much smaller than the black or grey that I thought it was a baby.
The red squirrel is back this year and the same size as last year. While I was working in the front flower garden, I saw the red squirrel going under our front steps where a chipmunk lives. The chipmunk was coming out as the squirrel went in. They had a chattering argument then both went into the same den.
I have never seen that happen before.

I've never heard about that kind of interaction before either but since I'm in South Africa we don't have chipmunks and the area I live in doesn't have squirrels.
We have however found the odd dead snake in the yard on occasion. Needless to say I made 2 000 % sure it was well past it's expiry date before approaching it to dispose of the body.

I have lived in Canada for many years and have thankfully only encountered one snake while hiking. I can't stand to even see a photo of snakes. They really creep me out. I would not be able to dispose of a dead one!

Maybe the small red squirrel was a chipmunk with a funny coat due to genetics.
If it really is some kind of stunted squirrel, maybe he just found a friend in the chipmunk.

Dont take it too seriously sometime it shows due to some wet weather condition and some time due to hot climate and these insects removed byself in few days from every place. These are not very harmful and no need to worry about these craps.
