Hi. I joined this forum because I live with two male (DNA tested) Congo African Greys. Kwanzaa is 25 and Zuki is 24. I've had them since they were about 3 weeks old. (I am an experienced hand feeder). They both talk well, whistle, and sing bits and pieces of several songs. kama

Welcome to the forum.
With all those years of experience, you will be a good help to others on the forum.
We love to hear stories about our greys.

Wow, 25 and 24 years! That is great. I have an older girl (30 years old) and a 10 year old boy. I only have had the girl for 6 years.
That is great that you've had your guys for so long. I'd love to hear stories about them and see some photos. Are they in the same cage?
Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome. Kwanzaa and Zuki live in a 30" X 40" X 42"H cage. They get along well together. Kwanzaa is the oldest. He started saying hello when he was a few months old and continued from there. Zuki started more slowly, but now I can't usually tell who is saying, singing or whistling what unless I am watching them. Their vocabulary is extensive. While I am cooking, they ask for whatever they think I might give them. ("Is that chicken? MMmmm! More? Bite? Oh, tomatoes! Yum! I have bite tomato?") When my granddaughters (now 10 and 12) were babies ,they lived here and the birds would sing them bits of different lullabies with me while I rocked them to sleep. They like to list everyone here, including other pets and say their gender. They are pretty accurate except with my husband. When they get to him, they always say, "Mark's a girl" and then laugh. I haven't kept a list, but I know that they use more than 100 words. I'll put some photos up soon.

They sound like fun which is often the case with greys.
My first grey used to tease then laugh. Once he insisted that his name was Errol which is my husband's name. Errol said he would treat him like a regular bird that just repeats words without knowing the meaning and said, "My name is Max" over and over. When he stopped, Max said, "Hello Max. My name is Errol" then he laughed. Your birds may be teasing by calling your husband a girl.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi, My name is Jane, I have joined the site as I will probably need ALOT of advice in the coming months. I am due to get an African Grey, but don't have a hatch date even yet. I have often visited the site as I am intently researching everything I can to give my bird the best possible life I can and it's great to see the vast amount of experience on here. Thanks all so much in advance.
