I was watching a programme about cats in which they put cat cams on them to see what they got up to. It seems they exploit their territory to their best advantage - patrolling specific areas and defending these areas from other cats but also entering neighbouring houses through open windows or the cat flap and spending time there. One cat who lived with four other cats preferred to visit a neighbour to sleep at night. One night the cat flap was locked to see why this was. It turned out that one of the other cats wouldn't allow him on the owner's bed.

That would be interesting. Do you have the name of the documentary?
There's a cat in our neighbor's patio which concerns me. He is really cute and will let me pet him, but he is really interested in the birds. Manzi and Maui don't know any better and try to bite him when he got close once. I saw it and ran after the cat with my fly swatter. I didn't actually get the cat, but I scared it enough to not see him around anymore.

It is "Cat Watch 2014:The New Horizon Experiment". It was a scientific study into the behaviour of cats and was shown on TV as three one hour programmes. It covered aspects such as how cats communicate with each other, how they communicate with humans, their physical abilities, their natural hunting instincts as predators. It was very interesting.

Sweet, must check that out We live with 5 cats (indoor cats, no roaming for them) and it is absolutely fascinating to see their behavior towards each other and their environment. They are extremely intelligent. I'm always amazed at how much they understand, both in human language and the world we live in.

A cat walked by me today, and as it passed it put its tail straight up. This is the body language they use to tell other cats (and presumably humans!) that they are friendly. As soon as it had passed me it put its tail down again.
