I recently made a decision to contact the two reliable breeders that I knew here in Connecticut to see what their schedule was for having babies in the future. I found out that they were no longer breeding parrots. They offered to let me know if they learned of any reputable, healthy breeders, but we were all unable to find any. I then made a call to Barbara, the President of The Connecticut Parrot Society to ask if she knew of any breeders in Ct. She is very well respected in the avian community here for her lifetime of service to parrots. I told her what happened to Shayla and I became tearful (as I have at some point during the day or night for over 30 days now.) She told me that she had a Mom and Dad grey that just had two new babies and both were two weeks old. I had no idea that she would have babies! She told me that her greys usually only have babies once a year and she was bringing them up to an exceptional Parrot Training Center/ Shop in Massachusetts. It was wonderful to talk with her. What were the odds that I would call at the exact time that she, herself, would have babies?
So I drove up to Massachusetts and when I arrived and went inside I fell apart. It was the first time since the loss that I entered any kind of pet location and I realized I wouldn't be able to do what was normal for me and pick out a toy that I thought would make Shayla happy. I got myself together and visited with the two newly, hatched babies. Immediately, I felt the joy and wonder of a new life. One of them snuggled up to me and just kept staring at me. I continued to talk to her (she is a girl) and she just kept staring at me, all snuggled up for almost two hours.
It was an experience beyond words. I knew that I had to adopt her.
She is so young and will not be ready to come home for two months and this will give me time to continue to grieve for Shayla. So three times a week, I am driving three hours round trip to spend time with this precious baby grey girl.
I am still thinking of a fitting name for her.
Here are some pictures:
Much Love,

I think you can now understand what I was saying about a new baby easing the pain. You will always love Shayla but now have a wonderful baby on which to lavish your affection. She is adorable and will bring you much happiness.

Well now! The big man upstairs has a way to say "I got this" doesn't he? I am so happy for you Grant. Your big girl is there with you, and will always be, but she's also giving you guidance in how to move forward too!

I have just read about your loss of Shayla. I had been through what you are experiencing now. Words can't describe the pain and the emptiness in our heart. Time will heal the pain but it can't take away the pain entirely. I lost Cocoa in Feb this year and the pain still remains in my heart till today. Now I have baby Kilaya but he can't replace my previous grey. He will slowly help me to recover. I will continue where I stopped with Cocoa and I hope you will find hapiness with your new baby.
