Hi Everyone I'm new to this forum, and would firstly like to say how useful I have found it to be. Ive had my CAG for just over a year now, and it goes without saying that we love him to bits. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that when you play a "game" or he/she gets excited, the 'bare' area around their eyes seems to flush very slightly pink - I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this in their birds ?? At first we thought he was perhaps stressed, worrying or a little too warm, but on searching the Internet we have managed to find a few cases of it. (Admittedly, it is something that we did not know - which perhaps we should have, but, apparently all parrots do it, its just that in the majority of cases you cant see it because of their feathers, and/or due to the level of 'blushing' that varies amongst species, so may be less noticeable - also babies are supposed to be more 'prone').

I must admit I have not notice it. I will definitely have a look tonight during playtime. Thank you for drawing my attention to it

Yes, Joshua gets slightly flushed also if he's excited.
I think most birds with bald cheek patches blush, macaws certainly do.

When mine is happy in the evening or when he’s relaxed he has a Carolina blue tint around his eye. When he’s stressed or upset about something it’s pink to light red around the same area. I use it as a mood ring to let me know how cooperative he’s going to be or as a Warning let him be. For over 17 years it’s been an appreciated communication signal from him that I take to heart.

Beaker gets red faced when we go to the groomer.
It isn't from being happy about it either.
