I read an article in the paper about how the fire brigade spent seven hours at an estimated cost of £4000 to try and rescue a cockatiel from a tree after she had escaped from her owner's house. Then her owner remembered that the cockatiel liked to snuggle in her bright pink dressing gown so she put it on and the cockatiel flew down to her.

You would have thought someone had seen the bird in the tree before calling the fire brigade.
That reminds me of the Blue and Gold Macaw one of the parents brought to school. He flew to the top of the gym and refused to come down. The gym is used by community groups after school and we couldn't wait for the bird to come down on its own. The firemen had fun going up ladders and using portable hockey nets to snare the bird.
