Just adopted Tia a Timneh African Grey this past weekend. We are in love with her. Only thing I know about her is she lived with a elderly lady for 10 years who passed away. I don't know how old she is. Only thing on her band is JH out of Nebraska. If anyone knows who that breeder is please let me know. She came with Harrison's food that's over a year old that was never givin to her. Seems like they just gave her seed. Which I'm refusing to do. I called the vet# on the food and found out she was at the vet in 2012 for feather plucking. They got it under control. Other than that the vet said she was in good health. Asked about age and they said question mark was put on file.
So far she is a very loving but quiet bird. I've only heard her say her name Tia, Hello, Hi, and the sound of pouring water. She usually says those when she sees me eating something and wants it. She begs for neck rubs etc. lol Which I love and enjoy giving to her. I work at home so she is getting lots of love and very spoiled.
Is there a age limit when Grey will stop learning new words and sounds? Or will I get to enjoy a nice quiet & loving grey. lol Either way I'm happy with her.

There is definitely no age limit. I have a 29 year old who picks up new words pretty frequently. My greys did learn new words when I had others living with me. Now that it is just me, there is not as much spoken in my place and they don't talk as much.
Usually feather plucking can be quite difficult to stop. She looks beautiful, so it is obviously not a problem anymore. Did the vet say why she had been feather plucking?
Even though they can learn new words, if she is on the quiet side, she will probably always be on the quiet side (yet she'll still pick up new words just fine). I personally think that is a great thing, but I have two loud greys. Since you just got her this past weekend, she is probably quiet because she is adjusting. It took my girl a couple of weeks to began being quite loud after I first got her. When I leave for extended trips, the people who watched Manzi said he didn't talk much the first 1-2 weeks, then he resumed his normal/loud noise-making.

Yup, it is early days yet
Thank you for taking this little soul on!
My Lucky is at best guess 68 years old and hes still picking up the odd new word or sound What i struggle with more than getting him to pick up sounds & words is to get him to lose them or shut up!

Welcome to the forum.
Tia looks beautiful. As the others have said, she is still getting adjusted and can certainly pick up new words. Looking forward to hearing your stories as she becomes settled.

Tia looks like a wonderful bird! I had a Timneh for about 25 years, Manfred was also very quiet, made the running water sound and a handful of words. If you asked him what does the kitty say, he would say "meow". He was very reserved, and was content just to sit on the top of the cage and watch the world go by, but his last few years he was much more active and would climb down the cage and get into things. I still miss him very much.
Welcome to the forum!

When Hector came to live with me he made noises and sounds more than words then after a few weeks he started talking. I always read him the posts from here. Like Adele I live alone most of the time. My daughter is away at college. Now when I ask him if he wants to see what's going on with the parrot people he comes to the front of the cage and looks like he's listening. He loves listening to Lucky Doodle talk. I'm sure he'll be happy to have all the time with you. Best of luck.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have one who talks and one who doesn't. Mitzi doesn't have a large vocabulary but she does pick up new things and she is 20 now. Monty doesn't talk at all, he is 22. He is very loud though, making various squawking noises. He can be heard for quite a way outside the house.
