Welcome to the forum.
I guess that buying two pairs means that you plan to breed them. Let us know more about your 14 year-old.

Hello, I'm new to the forum. I have found myself looking at this site a lot in the past to find answers for caring for my 2 and a 1/2 year old Congo african grey and I have decided to register. His name is Jazz and a few months ago we adopted a 29 year old yellow napped amazon from a complicated list of issues. The yellow napped amazon is named Buddy, which is a work in progress. But, Jazz is my baby and Buddy is or was supposed to be my husband's, lol Buddy has decided differently. Jazz is also my problem child. He is very healthy with a great apatite, contrary to what I've read Jazz will eat anything he's not really picky. I haven't had any feather plucking issues out of him. But, he's the one that always manages to hurt himself on the weirdest things. Such as he will unscrew the clasp that attaches his toys to the cage and has gotten his beak stuck in them and bruised his beak. I made a mash out of his pellets and spoon fed him for a week after that the tenderness was gone and he was fine. He has had broken blood feathers we had to tend to from falling down in his cage in the middle of the night because he had a bad dream. Lol, yes Jazz has dreams and he will occasionally lightly talk in his sleep. He is extremely intelligent, very curious and adventurous. Our nearest vet that will see parrots is almost 3 hours away so any emergency issue or what not that comes up with my parrots I need to be on top of and be capable and prepared to do things myself within reason. I have found many helpful threads here, many of them have been a remedy to my own mind full of worry due to my over protectiveness of my Jazz Bug. I've read all sorts of books and information on cags, but after bringing Jazz home he showed me that you can't go by any book. So we have been learning as we go. I'm just glad I've found a place with experienced cag parents to help us along. No one in my area owns anything more than a parakeet let alone a cag. So Jazz is a special baby that attracts all sorts of attention from family, our neighbors and neighborhood kids will stop by just to visit Jazz, and you don't want to know how long it takes me to get out of our PetSmart's parking lot when I stop to get snacks after a check up at the vet's office. Because of his rarity in our area I have to scrape for information when I have questions about caring for him or any issues that might come up.

Welcome to the forum.
This forum is composed of many knowledgeable, caring CAG parents who will help any way we can. Feel free to ask any question that may arise.
I know what you mean about being popular because of your grey. My little sweetheart has lots of fans. Everyone who meets her falls in love.
I look forward to hearing stories about your feathered babies.

Thank you, I'm glad I decided to join. I read thru these forums a lot from at least from when Jazz was 2 weeks old. The information here has been very helpful in raising Jazz, the stereotyping in the books didn't fit Jazz. Reading books on caring for a parrot is worlds deferent from raising one. Now we have adopted Buddy and Jazz will be going thru maturity soon so I decided it would be best to join. I look forward to being here and I hope that I can help others out as this place has for me. Having parrot is a life long commitment that will always present challenges at times, but they are more than worth it. Their love is like none other.

Hello, My name is Xan Schniederjans. I am from Lincoln, Nebraska and have a Congo African Grey Parrot named Tecumseh. He is going to turn 12 years old in February. I got him on July 5, 2003. He is a smart, affectionate, and telepathic bird.
