Hey everyone my family and I are a owner of a 19/20 year old male African Grey named Buddy. My parents got him from a lady that her husband passed and was his bird when he was 12. O I should say a little about myself, I am 19 and a college student and have a 16 year old brother who thinks of Buddy as a kid. I am not always home (Due to school.) Here is my story on how I found ya'll on here.....I was on Google a little bit ago looking up on how to cheer up your parrot when I came across your site. See I few days ago Buddy flew off of his cadge no more then 30 min after my mom check on him. Well when he flew he landed in the REALLY sticky bug things it was ALL over his feet and in his mouth. After I called (My mom was freaking out too much so I did it) 3 different places we got him in and the sticky stuff removed. YAY!!! Ever sense this happened (Its been about 2 or 3 days) he isn't him self. Hardly singing, not getting on top of his cadge, or climbing off it (He likes to sit on our labs and visit,) nothin. So I was hopin ya'll can help me out a bit or give me some reasurings that'd be awesome. I'm just scared it's gonna get worse when my brother and I have to go back to school and he'll be all alone till my brother gets outta school at 3. Thanks Colleen

hey colleen. Welcome and thanks for showing your concern Is the sticky bug stuff in ANY way poisonous? is buddy eating and drinking? these little grey things are just sooooo vulnerable to so many things. has buddy shown any interest in his toys? i am hoping its nothing more than buddy just getting a really big fright (and if thats the case, you just need to take some time and be patient). If your bug stuff had any kind of poison in it, gosh! You'd better be getting Buddy off to a vet as soon as you can!
i know my Doodle is an exception (he's a total psycho monster critter) but some of our greys are very sensitive and get all upset when things change around them or they get a fright. Please tell us more

The sticky bug stuff was so sticky we and the vet think he did not swallow it. It was the grey pads and it is like a glue so to say when he got it in his mouth (we think he was tryin to get his feet free) he couldn't do anything. But if he did get some in him I have no way in knowing if it is poisonous because this bug thing has been in out basement for so long there was to packaging anywhere in out house(so I hope he didn't) he is eating and drinking normally and playin with his toys and his new toy we got him that day. He also played with the toilet paper roll my gave him yesterday. He's just so quiet but he is letting me touch him more(before if you tried to pet him he'd move away or move to bite you) I just think he's in like a state of shock. I just hope her perks up soon it's too quiet and I dont like it

PHEW! that sounds a whole lot better. I think you're right. He got a big fright and is now a bit shocked. It may take a little time for him to recover, but while he's doing this, enjoy being able to get close to him!
