Hello, I have a rescue grey that we know had 12 years with a person who then died, since then about 6 homes, whwn we got him his wings were clipped and he was bald with feather plucking. We have had him for 5 months now. His flight feathwrs have grown back on one wing but no growth on the other wing, this means when he jumps off perches he spins like a helicopter blade. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know much about his past. He is a good talker and tolerates being picked up but does not love handling although he is not aggressive. Thanks for any advice.

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I know there are members whose Greys have had uneven growth on each wing after being clipped.
It might be that he had some discomfort from the plucking and that is why he doesn't like being handled. Having said that, not all Greys like being handled or stroked, or will only allow certain family members to do so.

Welcome to the forum.
My Chyloe has always had trouble growing feathers on her left wing. Her right wing is fully feathered. The vet was surprised that she doesn't spin like a helicopter as that is the usual result of having flight feathers on only one wing. I don't clip Chyloe because she doesn't spin and has a problem with crashing. You might try clipping the feathers on the one wing until both can grow in at the same time.

Hey there, welcome
My boy, Lucky, simply crashes...no flight, just CRASH, THUMP, BOOM, BASH. I can't say that it IS or IS NOT due to uneven flight feathers, but its definitely due to the fact that he spent at LEAST 40 years confined to a really small cage and simply didn't develop flight muscles properly.
Perhaps, instead of asking him to fly from up to down, you might try build him a series of "ladders" that he can clamber on to get around. I've had to do this for my old man, and i am continually gob-smacked by how quickly he can navigate from the tippy top of his cage to the ground.
Yesterday, in fact, the Doodle Monster, who i'd left perched on top of his cage when i had to run off for some meetings, managed to entrap the two workmen who were trying to complete the painting job inside my cottage. My Mom tells me that Doodle had climbed down from his perch to the ground, chased the two men into my small store room, and was patrolling the doorway, not allowing them to exit at ALL, until my mom heard the yelling and went to investigate, finding the two chaps balancing on one of my kists, while the Doodle bashed his beak and crackled menacingly at them from the ground! Mom says that once she'd shoo'd him back into his cage, he sat on his perch, all hunched up in delight, cackling his "HAW HAW HAW" all afternoon!
